Tom Holland finally settles the debate about Spider-Man’s Avengers status once and for all. The actor clarified exactly where Peter Parker fits in the MCU’s superhero lineup before Brand New Day arrives.
Tom Holland finally clarifies if Spider-Man is still an Avenger
Speaking to ScreenRant, Tom Holland confirmed that Peter Parker now focuses on protecting New York City at the street level. Holland emphasized that Spider-Man currently occupies the right place as a hero but struggles deeply as a person.
The actor revealed that Peter Parker’s personal life takes a heavy toll in the upcoming sequel. Holland shared, “When we’re talking about Spider-Man, I think he’s sitting right in the pocket. I think he’s exactly where he belongs as a superhero, but as Peter Parker, he’s really suffering.” He further noted that Peter pours all his energy into defending the city while “neglecting his human side.” That relentless commitment ultimately extracts a painful price from the character.
Doctor Strange’s identity-erasing spell at the end of Spider-Man: No Way Home left Peter completely isolated. Ned Leeds and MJ no longer remember who he really is beneath the mask. Peter must now confront dangerous new enemies without any support from his former inner circle. Brand New Day picks up the story four years after those devastating events.

The sequel grounds Spider-Man in local crime rather than universe-threatening Avengers battles. Destin Daniel Cretton helms the film, which features Holland alongside Zendaya, Jacob Batalon, Jon Bernthal, Mark Ruffalo, Marvin Jones III, and Sadie Sink. Marvel Studios still has not confirmed Holland’s involvement in Avengers: Doomsday, arriving December 18.
Spider-Man appears content operating independently from the broader Avengers team for the time being. Spider-Man: Brand New Day opens in theaters on July 31, 2026. The PG-13 sequel runs 150 minutes under Cretton’s direction.
