Tom Cruise, Anne Hathaway in 'Days of Thunder 2'. Film drops in 2028

Actors Tom Cruise and Anne Hathaway announced plans on Instagram for a "Days of Thunder" sequel that will come in 2028.

On Saturday, Aug. 28, Cruise, who starred in the 1990 movie opposite then partner Nicole Kidman, posted a photo on Instagram alongside a NASCAR vehicle and actress Hathaway, who also shared the post.

"Days of Thunder. Summer 2028," the post said. The yellow and green car in the photo sitting on Daytona International Speedway features Cruise's "Days of Thunder" character's name, Cole Trickle.

In a second post, the two actors shared a video showing off the vehicle and making the announcement.

"Should we show them?" Cruise asks before revealing the car.

"Now what?" Cruise asks after standing beside the car.

Hathaway, wearing a cowboy hat, responds, "Now what? Let's make the movie."

Hathaway, who is pregnant said she would have her baby first, then make the movie.

"We're coming out summer 2028. Don't be late," Cruise says.

The Instagram post contains no information on the final movie title or other actors who will be involved.

"Days of Thunder", released in June 1990, centers on Cruise as Trickle, an open-wheel racer, who joins NASCAR alongside the late Robert Duvall as his crew chief. Trickle reaches the heights of the circuit before a crash makes him question is abilities.

In the end, Cruise conquers his fears and wins at Daytona.

The film also starred Randy Quaid, John C. Reilly and Cary Elwes, among others.

IMDb's web page for the new movie shows only Cruise and Hathaway attached at this time.
