“The View ”cohosts defend Kim Kardashian after daughter North West, 13, gets hand piercings: ‘Why do you care?’

The View hosts are sharing their thoughts on backlash surrounding Kim Kardashian’s parenting.

“If she and her kid decided that’s okay, why do you care?” Whoopi Goldberg asked.
The ladies of The Viewhave no time for discourse surrounding Kim Kardashian’s parenting skills.
Wednesday’s episode of the daytime talk show saw its panelists discuss the wave of backlash Kardashian has received after her and ex-husband Ye’s (a.k.a. Kanye West) 13-year-old daughter, North West, recently revealed that she has piercings on the back of her hand.
“If she and her kid decided that’s okay, why do you care?” Whoopi Goldberg exclaimed. “Leave this child alone. What’s your children doing?”

The moderator, who is mom of daughter Alex, explained that she firmly believed “everybody at this table” would “allow their children to do what they’re gonna do when they think it’s time for them to do it.”
Alyssa Farah Griffin, who welcomed her son JJ in February, also pointed out that kids will often find ways to get piercings even if they aren’t given permission from their parents.
“I did my second [ear piercing] when I was, like, 14 years old at a friend’s house,” she explained. “It got slightly infected, then we fixed it, but to this day I still have them.”
While Griffin was okay with piercings, she felt much stronger about kids getting ink at a young age. “I love tattoos, but wait till you’re 18,” she said. “If I had, when I was 15, gotten a tattoo, I would have something so stupid right now.”
Sunny Hostin, who shares son Gabriel and daughter Paloma with husband Emmanuel, added that she didn’t think it was fair that North has “lived her entire life under a microscope.”

When Joy Behar suggested that the Kardashian family enjoys the attention, the legal expert replied, “I don’t know. Maybe [North] doesn’t like it.”
Hostin also reminded everyone that North is only 13 years old. “I think we need to give a 13-year-old kid a break,” she said. “She’s growing up under the spotlight. I can’t imagine having that kind of pressure on a 13 year old.”
Sara Haines, who is mom of three kids, added that having “two parents that are superstars” like Kardashian and Ye probably doesn’t make growing up any easier, either.

“Leave these children alone, please,” Goldberg added. “Let them work it out.”

North is the eldest child shared between Kardashian and Ye, who divorced after seven years of marriage in 2022. The exes also share son Saint, 10; daughter Chicago, 8; and son Psalm, 7.
