The Offspring plans to continue scheduled shows while Noodles recovers with the group’s support

The Offspring rocker Kevin “Noodles” Wasserman is stepping back from the stage amid an undisclosed but “serious” health issue.

The guitarist, 63, announced in a statement shared to Instagram on Wednesday, Oct. 21 that he would no longer be performing with The Offspring for a period of time.

“It is with deep sadness that I have to announce that I need to step away from live performances for a while to deal with a sudden and fairly serious health issue,” he wrote. “The rest of the band has my back, is super supportive, and will keep rocking you all in my absence. I hope to be back on stage sooner rather than later. Until then, I will miss all of you with all of my heart.”

Noodles concluded his message by thanking fans “for keeping me in your thoughts,” noting, “I really appreciate it.”

His message was met with support from friends and colleagues like Simple Plan‘s Pierre Bouvier, who wrote, “Hope you’re ok brother. Sending love and positivity. You’re a legend…. You got this. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️.”

Noodles previously opened up to PEOPLE in 2024 about how his passion for performing hasn’t waned after more than 40 years as a member of the Offspring, who released their most recent album, Supercharged, in October 2024.

“I think in the long run, Dexter [Holland] and I always loved doing what we do. I’ve always been really appreciative of his songwriting, and I love the time we spend in the studio, but then taking the songs out and playing them live for fans, that’s the greatest feeling in the world,” says Noodles.

The Offspring formed in Garden Grove, Calif. in 1984 and currently consists of Noodles, frontman Holland, bassist Todd Morse, multi-instrumentalist Jonah Nimoy and drummer Brandon Pertzborn.
