Roger Federer breaks silence on career plans when asked about tennis future

Roger Federer has ruled out a dramatic comeback to professional tennis and has no immediate plans to enter coaching or broadcasting after being inducted into the Hall of Fame.

Federer was inducted into the International Tennis Hall of Fame on Saturday and broke down in tears during an emotional ceremony. Federer selected his wife, Mirka, to introduce him during the event, and she delivered a powerful speech about her husband of 17 years.

Novak Djokovic also sent a touching message ahead of his US Open campaign, but unlike Serena and Venus Williams, Federer has no plans to return to professional tennis through a wildcard entry. While he remains involved in tennis, Federer doesn't plan to be full-time in coaching or commentary, either.

Federer did compete in an exhibition event at the US Open this week, playing Andy Roddick before they entered a doubles match alongside John McEnroe and Andre Agassi. Federer has played in several exhibitions since retiring, but the 20-time Grand Slam winner is happy with his current schedule.

When asked if he could make a sensational return to tennis, Federer said, "No, no, no, no. No, not at all. Thanks for asking. I wasn't sure if the question was going to get asked, but I'm happy you did so I can clarify incase anybody thought! No, no, no. Not at all.

"And I think you anyway have to enter the doping pool [six months in advance]. There's way too many obstacles. I'm too busy. I'm barely finding time to play any exhos, so imagine a tour. And the body is done, you know. But I'm very happy [with] how I'm feeling, so all good and just a fan now. Just enjoying watching."

While Federer is against a professional comeback, he adores his current relationship with tennis. "It's just nice to connect with the tennis community again, that's why I try to go to four, five events throughout the season," Federer said.

When Federer was inducted into the Hall of Fame on Saturday, he broke down in tears as he thanked his coaches throughout his legendary career. The Swiss legend isn't ready to pay that forward just yet, due to the demands of the role.

"To really have an impact as a coach, I feel like you need to put in at least 20 to 25 weeks on the road, and then be on standby whenever matches or Slams don't go the way you hoped," Federer said before his induction. "That's a big commitment — so let's be honest, it's a big maybe.

"Coaching at the minute, no, just because I'm too busy, and kids need my undivided attention. Plus, I have too many projects. I love my time and my life with my wife, so I don't want to change that at the minute, but never say never."

Another venture for Federer could be broadcasting or commentary, and he is seen as a natural for both roles. Federer wasn't just known for his tennis ability but also for his charisma and charm.

While Federer admitted that it had crossed his mind, he isn't ready to commit to anything. "I kind of was into it, thought maybe one day when I was talking in London in my retirement," he said.

"I feel very comfortable now not commentating, but who knows down the road or maybe I'll pop in and out of a booth maybe. It's maybe simpler and just test the waters, but I have no plans there really."
