Ridley Scott faces yet another significant setback with The Dog Stars. The Dog Stars, which has an array of talented cast members such as Jacob Elordi, Josh Brolin, Margaret Qualley, etc., dives into the story of Hig’s journey to find the source of an unexpected broadcast signal in a post-apocalyptic world.
Jacob Elordi takes on the role of Hig in the movie, which cost above $80 million to make. Josh Brolin took on the role of Bangley while Margaret Qualley brought life to Cima’s character in the movie. Here are the details of the major box office loss that this Ridley Scott movie is facing.
Ridley Scott’s The Dog Stars faces major box office failure
It cannot be denied that through the years, Ridley Scott has delivered multiple breathtaking projects that were able to etch a permanent place in the hearts of the viewers and also gained immense box office success. However, his newest project, The Dog Stars, which is set in a post-apocalyptic world shedding a distinct focus on the psychological struggles of the characters, fails to make an impact at the box office once again.
Previously, Scott’s 2021 movie The Last Duel also failed to gain significant success at the box office. The Dog Stars has been able to reportedly opened with only $8 million, which indicates that the movie will be facing significant losses during its run. It was able to gain $8 million domestically after releasing in 3330 locations.

Though the storyline of Ridley Scott’s The Dog Stars is quite intriguing and fresh, considering the multiple projects that have focused on a post-apocalyptic world, the movie has not been able to gain a positive response from the critics. It has only 41% on Rotten Tomatoes and a 6.5 rating on IMDb. This Ridley Scott movie takes its inspiration from a 2012 novel by Peter Heller.
Though this movie has not been a success for Scott, it must also be pointed out that some of his projects were able to get immense box office response. Movies such as The Martian and Alien were able to deliver huge success to Scott. Scott also has several projects lined up in the upcoming years. In a previous interview with PEOPLE, Scott pointed out that while reading the book on which the movie is based, he was “blown away” even though he initially did not know about the book or the writer, Peter Heller.
While discussing the storyline of The Dog Stars, Scott also unveils how impactful the COVID-19 pandemic has been for him. He points out that during the pandemic there was a moment when he “felt the actual drama suddenly kick in”. It cannot be denied that most post-apocalyptic movies have a significant focus on zombies. However, in The Dog Stars, the storyline is completely different. Scott notes that he is “zombied out” and has “avoided the zombies” in this movie.
