A new documentary will explore the “chaos” of the Gosselin family.
On Wednesday, Oct. 21, Netflix announced a new documentary exploring the family behind TLC’s Jon & Kate Plus 8. The reality series followed Jon and Kate Gosselin as they raised their eight children: twins Mady and Cara, and sextuplets Alexis, Hannah, Aaden, Collin, Leah and Joel.
Produced by Mike Gasparro and Julia Willoughby-Nason, the project will feature interviews with Jon and two of his children, Collin and Hannah.

“For nearly a decade, a family’s chaos and love played out on TV as comfort viewing,” an official logline reads. “Years later, conflicting accounts have emerged from within the family itself — competing memories of the same childhood, the same home, the same spotlight.”
“The new documentary takes a closer look, piecing together the story from every angle: the children who grew up on camera, the adults who built a brand around them, and the audience that couldn’t look away,” the description. “It’s an intimate look at how real life became a phenomenon the world thought it knew.”
The news comes a week after Collin, 22, released his memoir, In the Shadow of Eight: Surviving the Reality of My Childhood, in which he alleged that he experienced abuse during his upbringing.
Collin and his mother have been estranged for years, and he has a close relationship with his father. Collin was placed in a residential treatment facility as a child following his parents’ 2009 divorce. He later moved in with Jon, who was awarded custody.
In 2024, Collin publicly accused Kate of being “verbally abusive” during his childhood, alleging that she “isolated” him from his siblings and kept him in a separate room.
Earlier this year, Collin told his Instagram followers that the writing process “forced me to revisit some of the hardest moments of my life.”

Jon, who departed the TLC series following his divorce from Kate, has previously spoken about his estrangement from six of his eight children. He has publicly supported Collin following his allegations against his ex-wife.
Like Collin, Hannah moved in with her father in 2018. Speaking to Entertainment Tonight in 2022, Hannah shared she’s remained on good terms with both of her parents.
In a 2025 interview with Teen Vogue, Hannah opened up about growing up on reality TV, saying it was “normal” to be surrounded by cameras.
“[Filming] made my siblings and I closer to each other, even though it made my parents further from each other,” she admitted, also acknowledging, “It’s hard to go back and watch my parents argue.”

Following the memoir’s release, Kate shared a TikTok update about her dog, prompting commenters to weigh in on Collin’s allegations. She subsequently responded to several messages of support.
“I know you already know this, but you have the support of so many,” one commenter wrote, adding that their feed was filled with “such terrible lies.”
“It should be illegal to defame someone that way, but I just wanted to say you are doing a great job keeping your head up through all of this,” the commenter continued.
Kate replied to the supportive comment, writing, “Thank you so much. I know rational, logical ppl or anyone who has dealt with mental illness understands what’s going on here :).”
