Both of the Thursday racing tips run at Hamilton in Scotland

The sporting summer continues apace, with the Open Championship golf having got under way early this morning and, of course, Sunday’s World Cup final looming. Meanwhile, in the racing world, I like the look of a couple of Karl Burke-trained runners at Hamilton today.

1.40 Hamiton – Class 4 Nursery (5f)

Or Another is a risky pick, as he is seemingly quirky. He threw away his chance by hanging badly left in a Yarmouth nursery last week. However, he actually travelled well for a long way, still vying for the lead about a furlong out before fading.

Now, running from stall one, he has a rail immediately to his left, which can help him keep straight. He also gets cheekpieces instead of a visor.

He actually ran over course and distance two starts ago, fading into fourth in a maiden, but that was a useful little contest and he was gelded afterwards.

Or Another cost 180,000 guineas as a yearling and, while not straightforward, may prove capable of better than he’s shown so far. He’s trained by Karl Burke.

3.25 Hamilton – Class 2 Handicap (1m ½f)

This is a decent handicap in which the unbeaten I’ll Be Back (nap), another for Burke, could prove well weighted from a rating of 92. He was being considered for the 7f Group 3 Jersey Stakes at Royal Ascot at one point.

The three-year-old has won both of his starts, a 6f Doncaster maiden last term and a 7f Leicester novice in April. He had a penalty at Leicester, and the second, third and fourth from that race have won since.

I’ll Be Back has to prove his stamina and this might be the quickest ground he has raced on, but he finished strongly on his most recent start and his connections could have waited for a 7f handicap at the weekend had they been that concerned.
