Glenn Close posted a video on Instagram on October 20 explaining why she’s been seen using a cane lately.
The actress explained that she had a hip replacement, adding to concerned fans, “Don’t worry, I’m feeling great.”
“I look forward to all the adventures coming,” she added.
After Glenn Close was seen walking with a cane on a recent red carpet, the actress is giving fans an update on her health, reassuring them in a new Instagram video: “Don’t worry, I’m feeling great.”

On October 20, the All’s Fair star jumped on social media to clear up any concern, captioning her video “A needed explanation.” She shared that she had a hip replacement after finding out that her left hip was in “really bad shape,” necessitating the cane. She added that she hoped her use of the cane was temporary as she prepares for premieres in locations like New York City and London for All’s Fair and The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping, respectively.
“I wanted to just hop on and thank you for all of your love, and to explain why I have a cane,” she said in Tuesday’s clip. “I have a cane because I have had a complete hip replacement.”
In the video, Close—who is wearing a Frownie face patch in the clip—added that she’s “hobbling around on a cane for now.” She was seen using her cane at the October 15 premiere of La Bola Negra during the 2026 NewFest at SVA Theater in New York City, and in her video, the 79-year-old added, “My whole thing right now is to keep myself in running order so that I can really leap into whatever challenges come my way.”

As she prepares to promote her projects, “I hope to be fully present there, and maybe not running around going up mountains, but at least my old self,” the Fatal Attraction star continued. “So, love to everyone. Don’t worry. I’m feeling great.”

“I have my wonderful, wonderful family around me, and I look forward to all the adventures coming—so love to everyone,” she concluded.

After traveling to New York City and London, Close is set to receive an honorary Oscar at the 17th Governors Awards on November 15. The actress—who has been nominated eight times for an Academy Award—told comedian Pete Davidson for Variety’s Actors on Actors in 2021 that she thought “it might be cool to never get” the award.
“Is it better to be wheeled out in a wheelchair and get the lifetime achievement award?” she pondered. “You don’t have to make a speech.”

In the caption of Tuesday’s Instagram post, Close expressed her “deep gratitude to Dr. Edwin Sue at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York” for “being a consummate physician in every way. Thank you for my new hip.”
