Chipotle is testing the offer to target afternoon snackers and may expand it based on customer feedback

Chipotle has a new deal to help fuel fans’ afternoons.

The chain has launched “Power Up at Chipotle,” with $2.50 tacos in select test markets from 2 to 5 p.m. local time, Monday through Friday, through June 2.

The limited-time offer is currently available in dozens of restaurants throughout three cities: Kansas City, Mo., Orlando, Fla., and Tampa, Fla. (see the full list).

Customers can choose soft or crispy tacos with any protein, including Chipotle Honey Chicken, for $2.50 each. Guacamole, queso blanco, extra protein and other premium add-ons will cost extra.

Chipotle says the goal of “Power Up” is to meet “the afternoon snacking moment,” citing data in which 52% of consumers identified 2 to 5 p.m. as their “peak snack window.”

“The offering is perfect for a snack after school, before practice, between classes, or as a midday meet-up with friends,” the brand said in a release shared with PEOPLE.

The company said it would “listen, test and learn from customer feedback,” before deciding on a broader launch.

Chipotle CEO Scott Boatwright also mentioned the deal during a Wednesday, April 29, earnings call, saying, “We’re testing a ‘happier hour’ from $2 to $5 with tacos at $2.50.”

In December, the chain announced it was introducing its first high–protein menu, including a High Protein Cup with four ounces of adobo chicken or steak.

The company said the item was inspired by “real protein hacks” from Chipotle fans, such as one TikToker who recommended ordering a side of chicken for a filling snack.

In addition to the snack cups, the menu features full entrees, such as a Double High Protein Bowl and High Protein-High Fiber Bowl.

In a release shared with PEOPLE, the brand said the new items were introduced to meet the demand of Americans increasingly prioritizing protein amid the popularity of GLP-1 medications for weight loss.

“With the rise of GLP-1s and a broader focus on macronutrients, Chipotle’s new High Protein Menu offers more ways for guests to get the protein they want in the portions that work for them, whether that is a lighter bite or a more substantial build,” the release said.
