A celebrity chef in the U.K. has revealed that her husband was killed during a robbery.

On June 26, Parveen Ashraf, known as “Parveen the Spice Queen,” shared a video on Instagram announcing that she feels ready to return to work after taking time away following a personal tragedy.

“Whatever that means, I’m not even sure yet,” she said. “I had a personal tragedy, and I lost my husband about six months ago. And those that have lost somebody, you know how painful this is.”

The 61-year-old chef said she believes her late husband, Qamar Ashraf, would not want her to remain focused on her sadness.

“I feel that he wouldn’t want me to wallow in self-pity, so I’m gonna try and get back to work and be posting some videos and some recipes,” she ended the video before thanking her followers.

Alongside family photos, Ashraf wrote that her husband was “in the wrong place at the wrong time” and was killed during a robbery in Ghana.

He was remembered as a “unique, intelligent, handsome, complicated, deep, quiet man with a dry sense of humour and powerful aura,” the post read.

Ashraf is best known for hosting the ITV cooking series Parveen’s Indian Kitchen, which has aired since 2019. According to IMDb, the show follows her as she explores authentic Indian cooking, highlighting regional recipes from both the U.K. and India.
