When it comes to iconic acting opportunities which come along for only a select few, there aren't many which can compare to landing the role of Spider-Man. The beloved web-slinger first swung onto the silver screen in 2002, with Tobey Maguire donning the suit in the blockbuster hit, which led to two follow-ups.
Though a fourth movie was in development, it was ultimately scrapped, and the franchise got a fresh start with The Amazing Spider-Man in 2012, this time starring Andrew Garfield as Peter Parker and his crime-fighting persona.
And now footage has emerged of the exact moment Andrew discovered he'd be wearing the legendary red and blue suit and soaring above New York City. Video posted online reveals the 2010 scene when the actor - then primarily known for The Social Network - received the career-defining announcement, reports the Express.

The footage depicts Andrew being escorted into a room by director Marc Webb, who would oversee both Amazing Spider-Man movies, with the actor immediately sensing what's coming. Entering, Andrew exclaims: "Are you kidding me?"
Marc announces: "We have some news. So you're gonna be the next Spider-Man."
Andrew responds with astonishment, stepping out of the room and returning as those present clap, repeatedly saying "Woah" as he processes the revelation. Placing his arm around the performer's shoulders, Marc instructs: "Take it in."
"It's gonna be impossible to take in," Andrew responds. "I'm flattered and honoured and I will work as hard as any boy has ever worked."

Social media users were captivated by the footage, pulled from a fresh documentary called Generations: The Evolution of Spider-Man, available now on Disney+.
On Facebook, one viewer commented: "Andrew will always be the best Spider-Man. Other than the comic book accuracy, he plays Spider-Man with passion; you see the emotional range."
A second person posted: "HE WAS AWESOME. The first one was good!! The second was not." While another chimed in: "It stinks he never got to have a third movie."
Andrew, who was born in Los Angeles but raised in Epsom, Surrey, in the UK, appeared opposite Emma Stone in The Amazing Spider-Man in 2012, with The Amazing Spider-Man 2 following in 2014. Despite preparations for a third installment and several spin-off projects, these were scrapped after the sequel received lukewarm critical reception and disappointing ticket sales.
Tom Holland made his entrance as the third incarnation of Peter Parker in 2016's Captain America: Civil War. He subsequently featured in his own three-film series, plus two Avengers blockbusters.
Yet Andrew made a comeback, joining forces with Tobey Maguire, in 2021's Spider-Man: No Way Home, which brought the earlier two versions of the hero through the multiverse to unite with Tom's character. The fourth entry in the current franchise, Spider-Man: Brand New Day, is scheduled to hit theaters on Wednesday, July 31.
Whether Andrew will reprise his role as Spider-Man in this upcoming movie, or any subsequent projects, remains unclear.
